@Are0h I think ultimately it teaches kids the main way they can gain agency over things that hurt them is thru violence but I'm sure there's more to it then that.

i've always speculated that a lot of anime through the 90s and the 00s is made by people who had absent parents, that's around the time when the kids of households with two working parents had fully grown
most of the shows we've seen from those creators are about kids who have to figure out how to deal with their problems with very little or no adult guidance or protection at all, which is lateral across many genres too, not just scifi and fantasy
