Hadn't even heard this was possible until just now https://vitals.lifehacker.com/how-to-volunteer-for-a-coronavirus-vaccine-study-1844531828
@pagrus that's awesome that they're ready to test it on humans!
@twistylittlepassages Yeah, somebody asked me the other day if I'd be willing to volunteer for a trial, and it didn't really occur to me that the opportunity might actually present itself
@pagrus I've never done it, but volunteering for drug trials is a common way to make extra spending cash in various income-sharing communities I've been to/lived in.
right now my commune is self-isolating, so someone would have to temporarily leave (like for a chunk of time) to do this trial. but it's not far from a major medical research center, so someone there actually might take that opportunity!
@pagrus I just saw an article this morning that Astra Zeneca is looking for thousands of people for their trials. I'm hoping something comes to fruition sooner rather than later 🤞🏼
@pagrus the ex-pharma chemist in doesn’t want anyone I care about to sign up for these, and is so so worried about pharma development under this kind of global pressure, because of the problems they have without being in the public eye.
Vaccine development is much safer than treatment development, so it should really be a lot less risky to be a test subject, but... idk.
We do need a vaccine (and a cure— preferably multiple options of each) but pharma isn’t good at safety.
