"Leave politics out of tech."
People build tech. People use tech. You cannot have tech without people. So, yes, people will be bringing politics, rights, and representation into tech with them.
The only people I see whining about politics being brought into tech are (checks notes) oh look. White men.
@alice "Don't bring politics into tech. Don't bring politics into videogames." is just à way to say "Don't let us be aware of our privilégiés.".
@alice politics and ideology inevitably find their way into the design of tech and the intention thereof
@alice the shared delusion of tech is that it's a meritocracy, along with the usual toxic nerd shit of 'I was picked on in 7th grade, so I'm the good guy, regardless of my shitty behavior!"
Few want to face the fact that much of their supposed genius tends to come from the fact they grew up with enough resources to have computer time available to them at a young age. And part of the conflict is that the younger generation coming in, who had less of a wealth barrier, is more diverse.
@alice
I smell bullshit.
@alice White CIS heterosexual male here. Please perpetuate awareness around my privilege and generally try to influence people into building a better humanity 😎
@alice "don't bring politics into x" doesn't ever really make sense. politics is a way for us to collectively decide how we should behave, what is or isn't ok, how society should be structured, what bounds we should place & where, etc.
how does it ever make sense to not talk politics? to be is to make a political statement, no? i don't get that attitude, tbh
@alice Not politics, politics they don't agree with.
@alice
It seems that we have new icebreaker in our little convoy. 😉
A nice article from my morning feed of feeds (can't find the referrer, sorry).
