I’m looking for people to participate in a huge book exchange. You can be anywhere in the world. All you have to do is buy your favorite book (just one) and send it to a stranger (I'll send their details through in a private message).
You’ll receive an assortment of books in return, for you to keep. They'll be favorite books from strangers around the world!
If you are interested in taking part, please send a DM saying ‘IN’ and I'll send you all the details. (This is real, not just copypasta)
Sounds neat. First I better see if there's a bookstore for me to go to... 🤔
@MoMartin I'm pretty down for this but there's no bookstore I can go to right now :(
@MoMartin It's a little less personal than mailing it yourself, but I suppose using an online retailer to send the book would work.
@MoMartin isn't this kind of a pyramid scheme? i mean, how can you get more than one book back unless there is an ever-growing pool of participants?
@annmygdala I mean, it is one, definitely, but a fun and as best I can tell, harmless one.
@MoMartin this is a cool idea that I like but this is very bad timing for it there isn't really a way to do this safely right now
@shel I mean, there's no time pressure on it. Do it whenever you feel like!
@shel And of course, whenever you feel safe. Personally, my post office has taken good measures and, with mask on, I feel safe going there and sending off a book.
@MoMartin but circulating lots of objects is just a way of spreading contact
@shel Last I was informed, the disease couldn't survive long enough on a surface to be any danger as far as mail goes.
@shel I mean, not to push hard here, if you don't feel comfortable doing the exchange, that's fine, I just would like it to be known that as far as I know, there is no danger in mailing things.
@MoMartin hmmmmm does it have to be my favorite? can it simply be a book i own and have already read and enjoy?
@Moss I think the original wording was "book you love" so feel free!
