When I say racism is the problem it is because it has been historically used to enable so many terrible moments in American history. That is the single consistent theme through red-lining, Jim Crow, the Recession, the election of 45, the veracity of police brutality or whatever other incident one wants to name that has led to the significant delays in American progress.
Racism is the primary tool deployed in the States to contextualize the harm we constantly deal with as 'normal'.
To say capitalism is at the core of society's slow decline is an understatement but it is enabled by the constant and unrelenting context of racism in America.
Being anti-racist also means being anti-capitalist. The reverse is true as well. If you are a capitalist you are inherently racist because you are supporting an unjust system that not only removes resources from communities that have worked for them but punishing them as well for not participating in it.
Capitalism is along with the American law enforcement are the primary pillars of white supremacy in the States. These are the main tools used to keep people oppressed and in crisis.
White people believe they are not in crisis because they have been told capitalism isn't working because Black people are lazy, Mexicans are stealing their jobs, etc etc, but the primary reason their livelihoods have been gutted is because of the vampiric adherence to and ideology designed to keep them poor.
The effectiveness of the proliferation and perpetuation of capitalism is directly connected to anti-blackness. White people and their tokens buy into capitalism because we've been conditioned to believe access to wealth makes a human 'elite' rather than just being a by product of nefarious policy that re-routes resources to people have done little to earn it.
This is encapsulated by the Southern Strategy, which is by far the most successful political stragegy in American history.
The thing about capitalism is that it's not about money but rather the distribution of money and the abject cruelty and violence used to maintain that flow of resources.
There are a million ways to make some bread, man. It's been proven the most effective way to build national wealth is to fund welfare programs because it always has a positive return. Always. 10 times out 10.
We don't do it because capitalism incentives cruelty over national well being.
Either you are helping to stop bigots from operating and perpetuating harm or you're helping them. There is no middle ground.
If you get more upset about the conversation around bigotry and hate than the bigotry and hate itself, you are actively protecting bigots.
Either your doing what you can to fight hate or you're complicit.
There is no other option.
There's a REASON PV comes down hard on bigots. There's a reason why I personally screen shot and show the fedi who these people are.
You have to realize that what happened in Kenosha starts in place like the fedi. These people committing violence are your friends and your family.
If you are not making it harder for these lunatics to organize, you're helping them. If bigots don't mind interacting with you b/c you give them space, you're enabling harm to continue.
So Facebook took down the group that ORGANIZED the group of white terrorists that came specifically to Kenosho to kill people.
How long have we been SHOUTING about the the lack of responsibility these social media platforms have been showing has DIRECTLY lead to violence against targeted communities?
We keep telling you what the problem is but white people don't want to listen. And these terrorists take advantage of it.
We're seeing time and time and time and time again.
These days, I'm usually just working because let's be honest we just need better tools to build online communities. What we have now just isn't what we need to move forward.
If you're curious about how I'm going about it, check out https://www.patreon.com/Are0h.
I'm firm believer that we already have what we need to build better spaces. We just gotta put our heads down and do it.
Every bit helps me to keep going until we get there.
The natural and sane reaction to violent oppression and hate is to use whatever means are available to make it stop. Sometimes, it's with words. Other times it's with a baseball bat to the face.
Exclamations to be 'civil' in the face of violent hate is done exclusively to protect violent bigots.
Anyone that demands civility and decorum as a legitimate response to someone trying to harm you is not your friend.
They are protecting hate.
The hard reality is just the fedi is a hateful place because it chooses to be that. Most if not all high profile projects perpetuate this by paying laughable lip service to the idea of creating effective methods for people to protect their online selves and even demonizing, often violently, people who advocate for such tools.
This isn't a critique as much as it is just a objective statement of reality.
People who rage against this are upset with reality, not me.
It just is what it is.
I moonlight it a few places, so I know how people talk about me and this instance. I know how much your faves hate the idea of a section of the fedi that is safe for Black/Brown folks that are not run by white people.
I know for a fact there is more tolerance for neo nazis and and white nationalists on the fedi than there is for an autonomous community that protects itself from racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.
It's just funny to me how upset people get when you state a pure fact.
I'm able to deal with a lot of shit because I know it's not really me people are upset with because only a handful of people really know how I am.
People who dislike me and the instance I help run have created a version of me that they use to express their anti-blackness in a way that is socially acceptable.
If I'm a transphobe or a sexist lol or magically a racist, it's ok to perpetuate the most vile hatred against me.
I doesn't matter none of it is true. It's all about the violence.
I've said this before but I do believe PV is the only progressive instance on the fedi because it doesn't make you choose what identity one is loyal too for the sake of community. As long as one isn't espousing and/or perpetuating violence against historically marginalized communities, your good to go. It's ok to be more than one thing.
This stance has made us one of the more disliked places in an environment that says it is PROGRESSIVE.
That will never not be funny to me. Sad.. but hilarious.
The fedi is voluntarily hateful in the same way most western societies are. It doesn't have to be. It doesn't even need to be but so many people on the fedi need someone to hate because they have no idea who they are without it.
Sure we have all of this language in our bios stating that we like progressive stuff but the reality is people are just identifying their tribe and who they will met out humanity and kindness to.
And that rarely includes Black/Brown folks.
A lot of times, I just sit and laugh at the absurdity of how many folks on the fedi have called me racist, divisive, transphobic, etc etc when I talk about the realities of racism in this space.
I laugh about how many people expose they are not reality upset with my opinions but rather my objectivity when it comes to discussion race and intolerance.
There is a vested interest in making some esoteric issue that is allegedly hard to suss out.
But it's not. The fedi just loves racism. That's it.
