Me: Hey Postgres, can I do this?

Postres: Before I answer that, how are you? You look hungry have you eaten today?

Me: Uhm, well, I am a bit...

Postgres: *makes me a sandwich, plus me some juice* here you go...

Me: Oh wow, thanks, but I was wanted know...

Postgres: No, I can't do that, but you can try this, this or this. Do think any of those might work?

Me: Ah, ok. Yeah, that'll work. Actually that's probably better than was doing...

Postgres: Cool!

@Are0h postgres sounds like an amazing piece of software

@ashkitten It's really easy to work with. Coming from a background of hand-writing SQL for years, it's damn near pleasant.

@Are0h I work with databases for everything. if I had a choice, I wouldn't even hesitate to use postgres. I don't even care about the domain. time series, graph, nosql, whatever: postgres. My favorite elastic search is postgres.

@c25l It is a pretty impressive package. It's powerful, flexible and not very fussy.

That's a combo I never thought I would come across in db development.

@Are0h @c25l Definitely my favorite DB these days, yeah.

@Are0h

me: can i do this

mysql docs: sure!

me: *tries it, sees it break horribly*

me: mysql i thought you said i could do this

some blogpost from percona or stackoverflow answer from someone who has broken mysql in the same way: oh. oh yeah, THAT? no

(my favorite* recent example of this is silent coercion of bigints to fit into an int column that just throws a warning instead of an error by default lol)

postgres is not flawless, but it has a level of care about it i <3

@r4v5 No software is perfect, so of course.

But some do make the job a lot easier. Postgres fits into this category.

I stopped using mySQL years ago. The only time I really touch it is when I'm working with Wordpress, which isn't as painful, but.. meh...

@Are0h Postgres sounds like the #Rust compiler in this toot. I like it

@Are0h

Me: MySQL, can I do this?
MySQL: BWAAAHAAAA! Make me a sandwich, bitch.

@Are0h (I work in MySQL daily, it pays the rent, and it's not too awful when you get to know it ... but it sure don't make no sammidges)

@Are0h hey postgres, can you update the cluster to a newer version without downtime? :-)
