I mean... I don't want to be insensitive because I know it's historic and all, but the historic churches in my community have been burning for centuries and nobody really gave a fuck so... yeah.
@Are0h (I assume this is about Notre Dame burning in Paris, ignore me if it isn't)
The way every single personality from left to right is going on French TV to talk about how this is a national tragedy, their eyes looking like they have a double conjunctivitis, is pretty sickening.
If this had been a synagogue or a mosque, nobody would care.
I'm not going to care about old catholic stones either.
@mathieu I got up and checked the news and saw how so many writers are waxing on and on and I just laughed out loud.
The only thing more hilarious than the gross hypocrisy is the idea that we're just supposed to ignore it.
@Are0h I heard a TV channel interview an academic specialized in the history of religions who said "I'm not an expert in firefighting, but I wonder if we couldn't have done more to prevent the fire…" 🙄
It's now treated as a national emergency, Macron cancelled its big announcements yesterday so he could be there to support the catholics.
And of course, rich dudes suddenly found 300 millions to donate for reconstruction, but only if they can deduct 90% of it from taxes.
It's all ridiculous.
@mathieu It's funny how money magically appears when white dues want it to, but when it comes to affordable solutions that make people's lives easier all we get is "IT'S NOT FEASIBLE! IT'S TOO HARD! BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"
@Are0h every single time. 😠
Laying in bed, thinking about all the temples and shrines destroyed and plundered by europeans. Mad about how they took all the artifacts to display in their musems. Mad that they have no interest in returning indegenous heritage, but expect me to mourn theirs.
@Are0h Every time a racist says "get over it," I hear them saying "I am malignant and superstitious and think that only white people's pain matters, I am too emotionally incompetent to participate in a humane civilization." I guess they think they're gaslighting us, but they're really just telling us exactly what they are. I used to get tired but now I get embarrassed for them.
@ash Yeah. It's like racism is so pedestrian now, it barely registers. I just kind of laugh when people come at me like that on here.
If it wasn't for the extreme violence they continue to use, they would have been completely irrelevant a long time ago.
@Are0h 💯 I'll never understand how they think their extreme violence is valid just because it involves paperwork, weird blue outfits with made-up badges, and vocabulary designed to imitate respectability. The trauma-factory they call the "criminal justice system" operates without the consent of black and brown people, but their cars are painted in a weird stripey pattern so they're allowed to beat and enslave people? Lol.
@ash It's very odd when you think about it, especially when you consider the origin of policing in the States had nothing to do with law enforcement.
Yeah, they've made it prettier, but their original purpose still hasn't changed.
It's funny to me how they get upset when you just call it what it is and not pretend with them.
violence ment Show more
@Are0h It is weird. They should consider what it makes them look like. Nobody forces them to identify with and defend the people who carry out extrajudicial executions and legal lynchings, and yet so many do reflexively. They could easily condemn such obvious state-sanctioned violence, but they choose not to. It would seem to suggest that not only do they identify with whiteness, but they identify specifically with the *violence* of whiteness. Fascinating.
re: violence ment Show more
@ash I've always believed it's just what they are taught.
We'll never understand it fully because we don't come from cultures where the priority is to hate everyone that isn't like you.
The delusion, the disconnection from reason, the comfortability with excessive violence, etc. All are culture markers of whiteness. It's what the celebrate. It's not an accident we went from Obama to another racist.
That entire culture is about justifying irrational hate.
@Are0h I don't think it's the church part most people are concerned about so much as the cultural touchstone that transcends creed.
@BalooUriza We'll agree to disagree.
