Honestly, I'm just hoping Bethesda isn't trash. I know, it's a low bar, but... they still have Todd Howard in charge. His inclusion always makes Bethesda's judgement questionable.
@Are0h "Now I just wait for the mod scene to fix all the issues Bethesda is too lazy to do themselves."
As is tradition.
@Are0h it's even more dire than that because I'm pretty sure New Vegas was mostly an Obsidian joint
@even_more_damned_muteKi It was a joint venture. Betheda brought in Obsidian to do a Fallout 3 spin off, which they knocked out of the park.
@Are0h yeah I actually think it's nuts that Obsidian isn't the group in charge of the series at this point
To be fair, some of the companion sidequests are pretty good. I really like Nick's story, for example.
But yeah, F4 was an exercise in doing New Vegas badly.
@suetanvil The key phrase there is some, which is kinda the point. They have the ability to do better, but for whatever reason, they just don't.
With Bethesda's resources, that is hugely disappointing.
Yeah. I found F4 disappointing in many ways but still managed to sink 400-ish hours into it, so it was still fun.
That being said, I'm not in any way excited about F76, so they've managed to kill that. It may still be a decent game but I'm not getting my hopes up.
@Are0h agreed but reminder that the only reason NV had a decent story was because Bethesda didn't get to write it, Obsidian did
@Mutiny Hence the second paragraph where I mention they could bring in talent who know how to the job they continuously fail at.
@Are0h yeah, I guess I glazed over the second and only read the first and third, apologies
@Mutiny No worries.
@Are0h i thought new vegas' story was by someone else (apparently it was obsidian https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas )
@alienghic Hence the second paragraph that mentions that they could bring in talent that they know can do the job...
The brilliance of Fallout 4's engine is only outdone by the awfulness of it's narrative. Bethesda has never gotten the story right since they've taken over, save for New Vegas.
I keep hoping Bethesda's hubris will give way to reason and just bring in who they KNOW can do the job because they could literally make the best Fallout game ever.
But after 3 and 4, I'm not really hopeful. Now I just wait for the mod scene to fix all the issues Bethesda is too lazy to do themselves.
